English Language Programs

Language support for international students and scholars

Northwestern University brings students and scholars from around the world to engage in research, graduate study, teaching, and intellectual exchange. A partnership between The Graduate School and the Department of Linguistics, English Language Programs (ELP) provides English language training, orientation and community life programs, and English language proficiency testing for international graduate students and scholars, helping them improve their ability to communicate in the classroom and beyond. For information about who we are and how to contact us or get involved, go to the About section. See the buttons below for information on our services, testing, and orientation programs. To enroll in our programs, go to our Registration section. New to Northwestern? See our resources for new students and scholars.

Our services are exclusively for international students and scholars currently enrolled or employed at Northwestern University. For resources for the general public, please see our English Learner Resources page.
